Positive West Nile Virus Mosquito Pool

The Sarpy/Cass Health Department conducts mosquito surveillance throughout the summer and early fall as part of a statewide disease surveillance program. The Department was notified that a mosquito from the August 6 collection tested positive for West Nile Virus, the first positive mosquito in the jurisdiction this season.

West Nile Virus is primarily transmitted to people through the bite of an infected mosquito, with the highest risk occurring in mid to late summer. Stay alert and continue using insect repellent and taking precautions to protect yourself from mosquitoes. Learn more here: Preventing Mosquito Bites | Mosquitoes | CDC
